Sometimes I look at old sessions and I’m amazed at what I used to do just for a shoot. Guy’s beefy frame made him a popular dancer at a gay club in Austin. I had asked him for a shoot a few times before but I didn’t have the work yet to back up my request. By this time, my work was better known and some other club patrons vouched for me so he said yes.

This shoot would be for a fitness calendar I was producing that year.  I wanted to do something that would really put his body on display so I rented a moving truck.  I like the idea of the scratched up metal interior as a background. What I didn’t count on was the fact that the back of the truck was not ventilated or heated. Did I mention I shot this in February?

I shot this in the driveway of a friend’s house. Thankfully he had extension cords long enough to reach the back of the truck from his garage. We then plugged in my light and a heater. It was such a bad setup that I didn’t think through. I was really embarrassed but he was gracious about it. In this work you certainly live and learn.
