I am often asked who is my favorite model. I have enjoyed working with many of them. And many of them are absolutely great guys. Airon isn’t just someone I enjoy working with, and is a great person, but he’s also a wonderful collaborator. For a photographer, that is like Cher meeting Sonny.
I have had this idea of portraying what it is like to be ‘bound’ by rules and standards that come along with something you want. As someone once said, everything has a price. When you choose to live a life of luxury, you are bound by the standards of that lifestyle. An immense pressure to meet or exceed each other’s illustration of wealth and importance.
When I found this very sheik flat in Dallas I knew this would be my chance, but only if the model could sell the idea. This isn’t about one person holding another person hostage, sex games, or anything nefarious. But it could easily be taken that way if my composition and the model’s tone is wrong.
Airon was the right guy for this, and he didn’t hesitate when I pitched the idea to him. It was a very different editorial style for both of us. To go for it was a sign of trust in each other’s work. And we both were amazed by the results. My favorite shot is the wide of his back. Darkened opulence holding a man to a standard he struggles to meet.
